Generally we would recommend this for starting out. It contains all the tools you will need at most starting levels, and a set of soft handles in case you need additional grip to begin.
We would recommend the addition of a clear practice padlock and/or any of our selection of practice locks as well just so you can see how the lock mechanism works while you are learning.
This particular set is extremely popular and versatile - open deadbolts, doorknob locks, most auto locks, and padlocks.

NOTE: The handles are very tight - You want them to be tight, which is why they don't just slide on. Smear a very small amount of washing-up liquid on the pick handle, and then you'll find they slide on with relative ease. Give it an hour or two, and they'll have dried and be perfect.

This is a great set to start out as a beginner. The handle covers that come with the set: to slide on use hot soapy water and a bit of elbow grease. The customer service is excellent too and I'd particularly like to thank Gayle who managed to get hold of a spare rake for me after snapping my own after being too 'rough' with it - and she did all that for free :) So I recommend UKBumpKeys and their top notch customer service.

This is my 1st pick set. Luckily I found a video that suggested a good way to fit the hand grips (warm, slightly soapy water). So far, I have only found a couple if the picks to be useful and perhaps a heavy handed noob (although this kit is aimed at beginners) I have managed to bend 1 or 2. I also think the large hook is too large to be of use.

Not used a gift for son The hand grips are nigh on impossible to put on the picks, very tight and no instructions to help. The case would then be too small for the picks with grips together. As son will need the grips he probably won't be able to begin with this set. I chose these as recommended by relative as durable and the case helped keep it organised. Ah well. Seems he won't be the Du Pont we imagined..😏
