Cut-away locks are the best way to learn both beginner and advanced techniques as you can see exactly how the pins respond to your picks and the key. This is invaluable information for the lock picker as it allows you to later visualize what's happening in other locks, based on your x-ray like understanding of the mechanical functioning of a lock.

You can pin the lock with a variety of security pins (spool and serrated) and learn exactly how they feel when you pick them, when they false set, and when they set correctly.

You can even pin this lock with only two, three, four, five or the full six pins, and learn progressively.

This really is the ultimate in practice locks

To release the pin, just hold above the hole in your lock and gently squeeze.
